Around four years ago, Richmond, VA indie-math rockers Fight Cloud crowdfunded and released what was supposed to be their final album, We’ll Be Alright, before parting ways. The record felt like a culmination of everything the band had become — intricate, emotionally-resonant, first-listen accessible. The news of their indefinite hiatus, while disappointing, couldn’t have come off a higher note.
And that was it for a while, until a one-off show brought them back together in 2017. Inspired by the experience, the four of them quietly reconvened every few months to write new material.
These new songs, pieced together over the course of two years, would become Thoughts Aligned. Guitarist Mitch Clem recorded, mixed, and mastered the tracks in the summer of 2019 at Go West Recording Studio.
This album marks the last appearance of original drummer Miles Blunt and bassist Paul McDonald, who will be replaced with Gabe De Los Santos and Ethan Kuhn (who you may remember from his work in Houdan the Mystic), respectively.
You can pick up Fight Cloud’s surprise return ‘Thoughts Aligned’ on February 7th via their Bandcamp page. And when you do, drop them a line to say welcome back. Mind your manners.
