Celebrating 35 years of friendship and 25 years of creating music, AMERICAN DRAFT is excited to release their first full-length album in five years, American Draft. The instrumental quartet delivers a combination of heavy rock, progressive, and psychedelic sounds paired with an unconventional approach to songwriting. As lifelong friends and bandmates, the four men in AMERICAN DRAFT strive to avoid repetition which has remained essential in continuing their musical and social partnership for so damn long.
We’re excited to be premiering the music video and lead single, “A.I.M.” off AMERICAN DRAFT’s self titled album, which comes out on October 18. The video, created by Katie Kapuza, is a trippy visual ride that blends its visuals harmoniously with the dynamics and changes in the music. The song is a dark psychedelic post-metal banger that showcases the technical ability of everyone in the band and is riff filled powerhouse of a track.

For the uninitiated to AMERICAN DRAFT, the band formed in Chicago in 1999, and its members have been fixtures in Chicago’s local music scene since the mid-90s, and come out of the same Chicago post-rock scene that produced bands like PELICAN, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, TORTOISE, and JOAN OF ARC. Jeff Wojtysiak (bass) and Mike Baldwin (guitars, bass, keys) are former members of seminal 90s instrumental band VOLTA DO MAR. Sean Shipley (guitars, keys) also played in TONGUES (alongside members of APOCALYPSE HOBOKEN, MEXICAN CHEERLEADER and AMERICAN HERITAGE). And Matt Precin (drums, keys) is a former member of the band OR (alongside current and former members of SIDEKICK KATO, GHOSTS AND VODKA and JOAN OF ARC).
The album comes out on October 18, 2024 – pre-order it here.
