NEW MUSIC // SILVERGLASS TURNS HEADS WITH MIDWEST EMO CYBERFOLK FROM IRELAND

Ultimately, the idea mentioned in the title of this article alone is the selling point here – Dublin, Ireland has given birth to some unfairly talented people the last few decades, and it’s showing today with silverglass and their debut EP CELL COLLAPSE.

What’s interesting is that, given how fresh this EP is in terms of visible influences whose popularities are deeply ingratiated to the internet, it also has a universal, Youtube-style appeal that sort of reminds us of what Strawberry Girls or Polyphia might write if they grew up in the lush, temperate realms of Dublin or the nearby Wicklow mountain range, which looks like a place fairies and magical creatures probably still make merry math rock and stuff. Anyway.

Not everyone is going to bite into the electronic production, but it’s a way of production that’s going to have to eventually embrace if you want to keep up with the kids. We dig it – get a taste of what we’re talking about below:

Cyberfolk is just kind of a word that came to mind when we were hearing “Fragile” for the first time, and then when we heard CELL COLLAPSE in it’s entirety and it seemed to work the whole time. Own it, we say. But we can definitely feel the Midwest Emo x Lo-Fi culture embedded in the background, and it’s a space we’re excited to see flourish. Even if the term cyberfolk doesn’t actually exist or go anywhere – silverglass is worth checking out.
