GAMES // THE AXIS UNSEEN CELEBRATES THE DAWNING OF SPOOKY SEASON WITH DEMO LAUNCH AND RELEASE DATE TRAILER

The Axis Unseen has been a looming figure on the indie gaming radar for many moons now – it’s been described by it’s developer as a heavy metal horror game, but has an undeniable vibrance and atmosphere that’s truly on it’s own spiritual plane. It’s also worth mentioning that said developer, Just Purkey Games, is a solo indie dev with an incredible background, with projects like Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim, and more to his name after 14 years at Bethesda Game Studios.

While on the surface The Axis Unseen looks to almost directly compete with some of the grand open-world visions he’s already been a part of, it’s the magical elements that we can’t take our eyes off of. What the hell are those things on the bow? What do all of these runes and vividly colored markings mean?

Well, we’re super excited to find out on October 22nd. Check out the new demo launch / release date trailer below:

(We will join whatever cult necessary to procure magical bows such as this.)

Even without the high-brow pedigree, we’d still be really excited for the game for a number of reasons – it’s kind of got it all. You’ve got the occult, you’ve get metal music, you’ve got a pretty diverse amount of flora and fauna, a sense of SMELL… all in an environment painstakingly crafted from the smallest dust mote to the highest mountains. In fact, the particles in particular really get us with this one – other than what appears to be super-stylized, Turok-level blood animations, the shading of things like dirt, sand, and water is truly remarkable. There have been some good looking games on Unreal Engine 5, but there’s something next level about the level of care and detail on display, which generally makes for the real heart of any project, so seriously, we can’t wait.
