Good things come to those who wait. And to be fair, we have been waiting a fair while for another full length from France’s Papier Tigre. Their 2012 masterpiece Recreation set about rolling motions in our stomachs as the band unweaved their signature blend of disjunctive melodies over a cool pop sensibility (which we were more than chuffed to include in our recent freely downloadable regional sampler IV. France). And lo, the trio are set to return from a marked hiatus with their upcoming LP The Screw, a nine track course of creative experimental pop set to drop in the upcoming months.
Last week, the band unveiled a brand new track from the record, ‘Heebie Jeebies’, nailing down one of the coolest chord progressions we’ve heard this year and featuring a bloke nailing some sick crunk while he ostensibly gets an exorcism from some unknown entity. Yep, after nearly a decade together, the Tigre are about to prove that they’ve still got it. Really got it.
The Screw will be available for purchase worldwide on the June 17th via Function Records. For French folk, pre-orders are up now via Murailles Music.
