NEW MUSIC // CATHOLICS AND PRINZE JR FINALLY RELEASE THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SPLIT EP

Last year when Catholics hopped onto the East Coast // Midwest compilation, we got to talking about all kinds of things while the whole thing was assembled, and one of them was split that’s been absolutely painful to not announce prematurely – but thank god, today is the day.

Catholics and Prinze Jr have officially announced their split EP, and you can hear the whole thing now online while the pre-orders kick off for physical editions, which you can check out here. Both halves (the whole thing?) are honestly fantastic and offer twice the amount of material of the average split, which is generally closer to two songs each, and these ain’t no passive ditties.

There’s a lot of dimension to take in here – Prinze Jr/’s side shows off a lot of experimentation in terms of song structure and Giraffes? Giraffes!-style wackiness, and Catholics doubles down on their Midwest cred with their handle on balancing fun with contemptlative nostalgia.

Sometimes with splits there’s this preconception listeners have, ourselves included, that maybe it’s better not to know the exact credentials or personnel, and we actually lucked into that despite our insider knowledge. When we initially heard the split, it was just with the song names, and so it ended up feeling more like a cohesive album to us – that being said, knowing who did what actually only adds to the magic when the whole thing is this good.

PS Be sure to place that pre-order too, because splits like this are generally limited: Salvaged Records has this one set at 100 copies on vinyl in extremely pretty purple.
