EXCLUSIVE // WITNESS EVOLUTION AS TATSUYA YOSHIDA AND ZU ANNOUNCE THE BIRTH OF RUINSZU

As the skies continue to open up across the globe and rain all kinds of surprises down onto the unsuspecting populations of Earth, some of them are occasionally excellent – today, we’re happy to bring you one of the good ones.

For the uninitiated, Tatsuya Yoshida is a highly praised Japanese percussionist known for leaving a massive impact on the area’s underground jazz and noise music scenes, perhaps most lauded for his work with Ruins. And then of course we have, Zu, a particularly crazy prog band from Rome that’s collaborated with a wide swath of artists from Mike Patton to Suzuki.

And yes, today, these strikingly unique paths merge into one, and as you might have predicted, yes, it’s absolute madness… the kind you’re going to love – enter Ruinzu.

Soon, we’ll be able to hear the debut in its entirety as Jazzisdead Live is out officially April 18th. But it turns out the crystallization of this supergroup has actually been pretty long in the making, according to Zu:

“The collaborative paths of three great artists crossed the long-time ago… having known each other since the 90’s and having toured together several times, it was written in the stars that at some point Ruins as in mighty and unique drummer Tatsuya Yoshida from Tokyo and Zu core members Luca T. Mai and Massimo Pupillo from Rome would come together and collaborate. This happened in 2024 with the extensive tour across Europe. With their final date at Jazzisdead festival in Turin, Italy. “Zu were huge Ruins fans in their early 20’s. Before Zu was even born as a band, really. Ruins were one of our main influences as we started. We would have peed our pants if someone had told us we were to play with the mighty Yoshida one day.
Yoshida was conjuring prog metal noise post everything music back in the mid 80’s. He’s like another dimension. This album is a dream come true for us.”
