For countless reasons, the 2020 departure of MF DOOM left an undeniable crater in the hearts and minds of people in just about every popular music scene imaginable.
As MF DOOM changed the game for independent rap over the course of his career with records like Mm… Food and Madvilliany, his metal mask and sense of innovation sent shockwaves into adjacent communities world over. Even things when it comes to things like punk and math rock.
And so it’s only right that we see some tributes come in now that we’ve all had some time to process. Take, for instance, this rugged love letter to Doom from jagged post-punkers Predeceased.

It’s probably tempting for a lot of people to make something a little closer to Doom’s style when attempting to pen a tribute, but Predeceased stuck to their guns, which on our opinion was the right move.
Not only are they decent guns to rely on, it’s just more organic that way – can you imagine your favorite emo bands unironically rapping every word of “Rapp Snitch Knishes?”
Oh, right… yeah, the early 2000’s were a crazy time. We try to forget.
However, it is cool that Doom gets so much credit on both sides of the pond, having been born in London while eventually making many of his records in the United States. Being that Predeceased are from Manchester, it brings a unique sort of solace to our hearts knowing that while we are all still processing the loss of an icon, his legacy continues on in the same rugged, unpredictable, and undeniably graceful fashion he was known for.
RIP MF DOOM.
