Just over a year ago, a title might have caught your eye in the hailstorm of holiday releases – Every Motherfucker is Your Brother, to be specific. It’s quite the statement depending how you take it, and it turns out, we’ve been taking it wrong the whole time.
But how can you blame us? Oort Smog, comprised of Patrick Shiroishi and Mark Kimbrell, who also play in Upsilon Acrux, are deliberately obtuse in their jazz-hell delivery, but in the classiest of ways. Oddly enough, Every Motherfucker marked a bit of a departure from their constantly frenetic sound.
That being said, once you hear Mark explain that the title isn’t so much an observation on genealogy as it is a mantra for when people do things you can’t understand, it makes more sense. We’re pretty sure. Regardless, check out our chat about the film, the album and recording process, and what milk Patrick Shiroishi has to drink now that he plays with The Armed.

We ended up covering a lot more in that time than we thought we would, but still wish it went on longer. Oh well, maybe one day we’ll be able to afford one of those fancy business Zoom’s. But anyway. Check out the album here, but also don’t forget to check out the film here – it’s the perfect thing to throw on for your family members as they dissociate from overeating. Trust us, they’re gonna love it.
Well, at least ask you about it. Enjoy!
