Southhampton math rock act Sketchshow are off to a rocketing start. Having formed only a year ago, the quintet are already well on the road to world domination, with their debut EP Patchwork hitting the internet shelves next month. The band’s characteristic take on pop and math rock is the result of their diverse range of influences, including Intervals, Sithu Aye, CHON, Snarky Puppy, The Internet and Everything Everything.
We are happy to end the week with a premiere of their new single ‘Every Excuse’, taking the form of a lyric video. In this the opening track of Patchwork, you’re going to hear poppy Paramore-esque notes atop odd metered alt-leaning indie. It’s the perfect balance between hook-rich, bop-along rock and unpredictable instrumentation. Let’s put it this way: if you’re a fan of fellow Southhamptonoids Signals, then you’re going to want to be adding ‘Every Excuse’ to your playlists.
‘Every Excuse’ is now available for free download on Sketchshow’s bandcamp page. ‘Patchwork’ will be released in its entirety on April 6th. You can keep up to date with band’s movements via their Facebook page.
