NEW MUSIC // WE ALL SCREAM FOR AMSKRAY AFTER HEARING “HEAVENERS”

When it comes to post-hardcore few coasts have a better handle on it than the ones touching the Atlantic. We don’t know if it’s something in the water, maybe it’s just the salt. Either way, Jersey’s latest tasty prog treat comes courtesy of Amskray and their new single “Heaveners.”

“Heaveners” kicks off with a bang, throwing a solid but sinewy riff into the mix immediately, but what’s that in the background? Is that… an organ? How about that?

It actually goes over pretty well – and if you’re a fan of genre, you know there’s more and more organ utilized the further you go back through the ol’ progressive grimoire, and adequately familiar with the power of a Hammond B-3’s succulent wooshing sounds at just the right moments.

You can hear a vibe-y one below at around the 2:15 mark.

It definitely gives Amskray a bit of a different sound when compared to other post-hardcore leaning prog bands, with most leaning into the most modern techniques possible for whatever reason. Neither way is inherently right or wrong, but it’s been a while since we heard the two sides comfortably bridged.

Of the two single we’ve heard so far, both “Heaveners” and “In the Ashes” show off a pretty stunning range, so we’d be stoked to check out the full album, which allegedly drops some time this year. We’ll keep you posted!

Check out the band’s other single on their Bandcamp here, and splash our mugs with that sweet hot goodness here. That came out a little weird. It always does. Anyway, we are going to pump out a couple more articles in the next few days, hopefully featuring baddies like Kevin Hufnagel, Protomartyr, Secret Cowboy and more, but we’re also going to take a quick siesta so we can restructure a couple things on the backend. Talk soon!
