In the constant wave of modern online musical prodigies, it’s easy to get swept up in it all and think to yourself, “dang, I don’t think I have what it takes, everyone else so so good.”
But every once in a while a record will float by to remind you that impeccable timing and molecular-level fluency isn’t all there is to life, let alone playing music. It just so happens that we were subconsciously looking for one of these reminders when we noticed that Mark Corey had emailed us an advance of latest record, Suchness.
Kicking the single off with a somewhat Ian Williams-esque loop, you might be surprised, possibly even overjoyed to realize that yes, that is also Damon Che on the drums. Che actually appears several times throughout the record from what we’ve heard, but check out the music video for the first offering below.

Granted, it would be pretty natural for someone to say, “hey, this sounds like Battles and Don Caballero had a really chill secret baby.” But there is a tense, orchestrated looseness lurking in the background, despite Mark’s sunny disposition when it comes to all of these loops, giving it an interesting character.
In fact, speaking of character, Che may not be the only secret weapon on Suchness. Ben Levin, Bent Knee‘s utterly surreal guitar protagonist, is also rumored to show up. But who is to say?
We’ll keep you posted ;)
This is quickly becoming one of those moments where a word loses a sense of meaning due to repetition, but it’s not about the words. It’s about the music. It’s about the Suchness. Anyway! We will keep you posted on the next single for sure – coming up we’ve got massive guitar nerd QnA’s, an update regarding the upcoming East Coast compilation (it’s a good one) and a whole lot more. Thanks for reading!
