NEW MUSIC // LILLY LEGIT OPENS UP WITH “LOSS HAS TO BE BEAUTIFUL”

Many math rockers and prog preferrers in the underground have revered Germany’s Lilly Legit for a sort of liminal, indescribable quality thanks to both production and instrumental prowess. Despite their effervescent nature, the project never really breaches into post-rock, but it does maintain a large sense of scale that keeps you thinking they just might, and that’s part of the fun.

Benjamin Guenther’s dreamy feel is as present as ever on the new single, and actually adds more than a couple new layers to the mix, with “Loss Has to Be Beautiful” gliding between dynamics to deliver what just might be our favorite Lilly Legit song to date.

As you can hear below, the single doesn’t make any effort to dumb things down or make any existing elements within the project more digestible – rather, they stretch things out more than ever while maintaining that all-important sense of propulsion. Check it out below:

The keys in the outro go as hard as an old Three Trapped Tigers song, but has enough of a jazz feel that it also feels at home alongside playlists featuring artists like LITE or Mouse on the Keys. Lilly Legit has its own flavor though, particularly when coming up with new grooves, and while we haven’t got a full EP or LP in a while, it sounds like the project is thriving. As always will be on the lookout for more when it arrives – we’ll keep you posted.
