Ands is one of those projects that deftly sit in the middle of several contemporaries, but doesn’t really sound like any of them. The Chicago based band just released a video for their first single “Wallet and Waltz,” which we we’re stoked to be premiering below.
The song soothes on several levels – from the ice-pick guitars, to the Cave In styled dissonance in the background to the pulsing, to the impeccably spaced vocal harmonies… we’re kind of all about it. Though we didn’t see a single waltz in the music video, we’ll let it slide. This time.
“Wallet and Waltz” evades easy classification through its dense yet ethereal structure. It’s layers slowly creep in around the edges, but on Trust, the band’s upcoming album, layers are the name of the game. Songs like ” “Viva Fever” and “The Process” show that Ands love to keep it tense and tight, as well as spend a considerable amount of time digging for the perfect melody. It’s catchy stuff, but it also keeps you on the edge of your seat – but only if you’re sitting. We actually recommend standing when listening to Ands.
All jokes aside, it’s nice to hear some no-BS Chicago spice again. But we shouldn’t be surprised by its appearance here. The bands members include Will and Sam of Space Blood, Dustin Currier of Cut Teeth and Felix Culpa, and Kortland Chase of Pink Avalanche and AsHell. So yeah – that’s got to be considered some kind of supergroup.
And even if it’s not, it’s still a super group; Trust is a record you’ll be listening to on repeat as soon as it’s out.
We’re stoked for you to hear Trust as it’s revealed next week. If we hear anything more, you’ll be the first to know. I’d bet we will though – we may or may not have a man on the inside.
