It’s no surprise that Alpha Male Tea Party begin their newest single, You Eat Houmous, Of Course You Listen To Genesis, with a vicious, palm-muted, almost metal groove. In their previous EP, Real Ale and Model Rail, the band employed a range of heavy rock motifs, manifesting in tracks like the pounding ‘Tastes Like Dog’ and the more sludgy ‘Truffles’. Anyone who has seen these Manchester lads play knows they’re all about fun: wacky costumes, nonsensical inter-song banter, no-shits-given musicianship. And this is exactly what to expect from You Eat Houmous; AMTP press down on the distortion pedal and indulge in fiery guitar hooks and unabashed melodic joy. It’s heavy and it’s fun.
