They’re two albums in and the prolific Finnish noise-house NYOS are about to make it a triad. Navigation is the third instalment from the Jyvaskyla duo, and takes their signature blend of loop-driven math rock to dizzying new heights. And this week we are offering you a fresh scoop in the form of digital single ‘Navigator’.
NYOS’ third release was recorded and mixed by guitarist Tom Brooke and mastered by Mandy Parnell, whose impressive back-catalogue includes Bjork, Aphex Twin, and Sigur Ros. It is a step up from their previous efforts Vltava and Nature; Navigation brings the same amount of brash and impetuous guitar-drum fury but adds more ethereal and emotive elements, overall establishing a more dynamic sound amongst the chaos. You will hear Lightning Bolt and Hella, but you will also hear a more somber melodic undertone typical of, say, Brontide or Talons.
