Chicago math rock act Snooze are the proof we need that even a global pandemic can’t bring a good band down. The band made our top 25 math rock albums of 2019 with their epic full-length Familiaris and, in a dual display of dedication and resilience, signaled an incoming EP with their teaser track ‘Feels Bad‘ a year later. This is a band that ain’t gonna let a feeble coronavirus ruin their slow and steady forge through the underground rock ranks.
And this says nothing about the music itself. Snooze crafts complex jams that will keep you head-banging while pulling on your heart strings. The songs swing between pop, metal, prog, and emo – whilst offering crisp instrumentation and hypnotic vocals throughout. Their eagerness to jump between different styles serves them well, adding an element of unpredictability to their sound.
Their latest offering is still, a six track EP that brings together the wild and effervescent charm that has become typical of Snooze. The album will be released via Choke Artist, an underground New Jersey label and one of our damned favourites. As a taster, we are offering up the opener ‘What’s the Secret Ingrediant [sic] of a Toilot [sic]?’. You know the drill: devour it, enjoy it, buy it…
Snooze’s new EP ‘still’ is out on November 27th. You can pre-order it here, or you can find it under the ‘post butt rock’ tag in Bandcamp
