NEW MUSIC // AS LIVING ARROWS LET LOOSE A SOARING NEW SINGLE WITH “OUR MERIDIAN”

Formerly known as Dead Bird, As Living Arrows is a high-intensity post-hardcore group with close ties to math rock, as Chris Collis of the highly influential TTNG drums for the band. Considering the dextrous, often mind-boggling intricacy of TTNG, fans of Collis continue to hone in on an entirely different skillset for this project since their debut.

The band just announced a new album titled Hope and Ruin, and the single they’ve put out for the announcement goes by “Our Meridian.” Like “Hides,” the band’s standalone single from March of this year, the song teases an invigorated new stage for As Living Arrows that confidently ventures past the boundaries of what they’ve done before.

Check out the video for “Our Meridian” below, directed by John Bradburn, who’s recently done vids for bands like Frail Body, Emma Ruth Rundle, and Umbrae Vitae.

The new singles have us pretty excited for this new era of the band, with influences like Deafheaven and Russian Circles popping up, but also heady-er, harder to describe acts from yesteryear like Thrice and Sparta. You could hear this a little bit in their debut In the Absence Of…, but the vocal cues are varied and cryptic this time around while still wearing their heart on their sleeve, reminding us La Dispute‘s Jordan Dreyer but also Chino Moreno of Crosses and Deftones.

However you slice it, it seems As Living Arrows is growing into their own, and fast, so we’ll be bracing for the full record when it’s out. Oh, speaking of: Hope and Ruin is out September 27th – check out the band’s website here for more info.
