TIP YA HAT! // TAKAYUKI KANAZAWA – LOW-PASS

Takayuki was the first person to sign up his band, Low-Pass, for our Japan compilation, and helped us out quite a lot with our Japanese math rock feature. So we have a lotta love for him. And he certainly has a lot of fans over here in the UK, having toured with the likes of TTNG, Enemies, and Tangled Hair. Takayuki is a master of guitar-tapped melodies, and I was wondering what music influences his guitar work. So, of course, I asked him to tip his hat…

“The musician I am influenced the most by is Pele. Before I got to know them, I had been listening to a lot of other post rock and math rock but if I had not come across their album “The Nudes”, I would not have started Low-Pass. Their style of drumming laid a backbone to their smooth guitar arpeggios and the tapping brought you the sound of absolute pop. Those aspects let me determine that I also wanted to make music and have an instrumental band like them. In fact, the song ‘Tap’ by Low-Pass is literally under the influence of Pele! Again, this is the reason why I am still being influenced by their album.”
