NEW MUSIC // WAVE SWEET FAREWELL TO JANUARY WITH JANUARY AND THE FLOWY DUAL-AXE ATTACK OF THEIR LATEST SINGLE

What a month! We kicked it off with an insane final rush of compilation work and the coverage a slew of bands both known and unknown. Somehow, January of 2023 is practically over already, but here to make sure it gets its due is Thailand’s stellar January.

We’re big on three pieces around here, and January check this box in a way some might consider bold, perhaps even daring – there’s not a bass guitar in sight. But for January, this arrangement is perfectly treble heavy, without getting into the whistling, piercing frequencies that guitar-centric music is often known to contain.

In fact, for a band called January releasing a song in January, “Overflow” actually comes across as quite warm and comforting. Maybe the overflow was tea or something. Regardless, check it out below.

The group recently joined forces with Trash Lab Records, which has a number of similarly enjoyable records to peruse as well, so it’s definitely a great fit for the band. January’s double-axe attack comes across as tastefully composed, never going into any huge solos or histrionics, with more focus on how to fit the guitar parts together.

Whether it’s taking turns iterating a melodic idea or harmonizing strings of harmonic blips, it seems like January has a lot of tricks up their sleeves, and we’ve excited to see what else they’ve got in store for us when the time comes.

You can see more from the band here over at the Trash Lab Youtube page, and if you want to help us search for new music as quickly and as efficiently as possible, buy us a coffee here. It keeps us going! Regardless, we’re finishing up the comp as we speak and it’s behemoth accompanying article, and got a couple more bands to write up before the month is officially over, and you’ll be seeing them on the home page real soon. Thanks for reading!
