NEW MUSIC // THISQUIETARMY DROPS NEW RECORD VIA COUP SUR COUP COMPLETE WITH A SMOLDERING SINGLE

Now, having even just one release to your name at this point is remarkable. Making songs, and then releasing them, can pose quite the challenge, and for entire records you can often quadruple the associated amounts of work, time, and depravity. That being said, when you love it, it’s worth it, and you do it as often as you can.

Take Montreal’s Thisquietarmy for example. Take a guess as to how many releases are associated with Erick Quach’s project – no really, hold what you think is a reasonable number in your mind. You’re most likely a ways off: the upcoming Les Estampes will be nearly their 60th record since 2005.

We say near 60 because there are some one-off’s and features, which each of these releases being all over the place while generally conjuring brooding, atmospheric rips that should feel right at home on Coup Sur Coup Records when they release it tomorrow, May 25th. Check out the, ahem, devilish order page here, then get on the hype train below with the record’s teaser track of a single, “FUNICULAIRE,” which rides the eery line between bands like Merzbow, Godflesh, and the solo output of occasional contributor William Covert, which Coup Sur Coup also helped release.

At times, it even reminds us of the CD’s you’d buy to at Party City to accompany Halloween festivities… the kind that actually scared you. This avant fringe noise that builds to the maximum extent, or at other times decays to the most minimalist mindset. With Thisquietarmy, you never know quite what you’re going to get.

Here’s what Eric said about it in the video description:

““Funiculaire” is the first single off Thisquietarmy’s upcoming cassette “Les estampes” to be released on Every day is Drone Day: May 25, 2024 via Bandcamp and on cassette via Coup sur Coup Records.

The film was shot in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) in 2018 during a EU tour, edited as a video in 2024. The footage has been heavily used during my recent live post-pandemic solo performances in the past couple of years.

Les estampes contains improvised soundscape sketches in limbo that were recorded in my jamspace during the pandemic. It was rushed to completion in 2024, in anticipation for my upcoming Eastern Canada (ON/QC) tour starting in early June w/ Drowse & Your Winters Are Like Summers, as well as my Western Canada (AB/BC) tour & my Canadian dates with @locrianofficial in July.”
