HOMEBRWE, a shining new two-piece from Volgograd, Russia, have seemingly burst onto the scene from out of the snow, armed with a backpack of pedals, a rickshaw carrying three vats of adrenalin, and a stress cushion. Or at least that’s how Because Your Princess Is In Another Castle appears.
Because Your Princess… is an intercalated two-course meal, really. The blistering Cleft-esque opener ‘CHI’ abruptly transitions to the tremolo-picking post-rock operas ‘Kultmoche’ and ‘Jinaz’. The latter half of this album feels like familiar territory for Russian math rock, bringing the jovial stylistic tendencies enshrined in bands like MTKPCC, Jaunt and Yawn Hic. Here, major chord dominant hooks and groovy rhythms are in abundance.
In Because Your Princess…, HOMEBRWE toss and turn between math rock dissonance and post rock composure. In either atmosphere, there is plenty of fun to be had here.
