When we’re not accidentally throwing large Fecking Bahamas beach balls at their equipment on stage at major festivals (sorry about that guys), we’re enjoying Alarmist‘s eclectic blend of jazz, world, electronica, funk, and instrumental rock with our feet up on the arms of couches, thinking about how so many of Nature’s wonderful sounds can be squeezed through one band. Does it not seem right that, for a band with such diverse influences, we put them on the spot to pick one, just one, album that is a staple to their music? We thought so. And we did. Their choice seemed rather fitting…
“I think we’d probably all agree on TNT! by Tortoise. Just because it does that thing of mixing loads of different genres, in a really disparate way… but it’s not like a cheesy reference point thing; it just makes it into something weird and cohesive. But it’s borrowing from all these different sound worlds, and somehow making a new thing.”
