NEW MUSIC // LIVE DANGEROUSLY WITH A “LUCIFERIN” NEW SINGLE BY THE PNEUMATIC TRANSIT

Let’s kick off 2024 with some steamy contraband, shall we? Mmmmmyes. Today we dive into the latest single from The Pneumatic Transit, the poly-technic prog powerhouse led by former Exotic Animal Petting Zoo guitarist Jeff Zampillo.

Zampillo’s aggressively tasteful fusion licks rarely disappoint, often bringing to mind the idiosyncratic writing styles of John McLaughlin and Omar Rodriguez Lopez. He also always backs himself up with absurdly talented backing musicians, and “Lucefirin” is a genuine constellation of multiple stars having their own little moments – yet it’s also a distinct whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

Enough words – well, at least until you’ve heard the song. Check out “Luciferin” below.

Forbidden Trinkets, the band’s new LP, is due out January 26th, so be sure to pre-order it above. Zampillo and co’s last EP, Nimoy, was a stylistic shift that almost put them closer to acts like This Island Earth and Closure in Moscow, but we really enjoyed the record as an unexpected challenge – remember, this is a group that can fork out fusion bangers at a moments notice, so when experimental, atmospheric moments punctuate things, it goes a long way for the pacing.

That being said, “Lucefirin” is pretty saucy, and gives you more than enough reason to consider its offers. Here’s to nothing being too terribly forbidden in 2024 for one Chicago’s classiest.
