What is a ‘time column’, I hear you ask. Is it a column devoted to categorizing time increments in Microsoft Excel? Is it the pillars that hold up a clock? Is it a hypothetical window through which the foundations of special relativity are suddenly invalid, where time exists impervious to mass and light? What does that even mean? Who am I?

Look, I can’t believe I was a first year undergraduate (freshman) when I first heard Time Columns. Has it really been that long? The Baltimore three-piece were one of the key bands that got me more and more immersed in the math rock scene. I remember buying Sunriseinthesea and burning a track onto a mix CD for a girl who was my best friend at the time, and incidentally is now my wife. Time Columns have most certainly been in and around my grown up life. Yet, for some fucked up reason, they’re still the underdogs of math rock. The quiet achievers. In 2015 they’re back and one thing is for certain: their new material is top notch, if this video is anything to go by.

We’re super happy to be premiering a live recording of ‘Paper Tiger’, a new track from Time Columns’ upcoming album. The song splices powerful guitar melodies with post rock tremolo picking and jovial stop/start interludes. Time Columns have clearly returned with a lot of force, and are more than happy to share it.
