It’s Monday and we’re screaming for Amskray and their latest single, “Meta.” The New Jersey based progressive indie band has been teasing their full length Die Happy for months now, and the latest taste, as you’re about to find out, is pretty sweet.
“Meta (Gaining Loss)” takes a slower, more winding path than one might expect, playing off the drama of acoustic guitars, reverberating vocals, and ghostly piano backing. The band kicks it into post-hardcore gear by the time the chorus comes around, however, and none of that stale stuff either – Amskray keeps it fresh.

Right? There’s a real worldly-ness to it, reminding us a little bit of enigmatic titans like Closure in Moscow and Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, with bits of math rock and post-rock thrown in around the edges. Not to mention crazy keys all over the place.
It’s a great preview of what’s to come if you hadn’t already jammed their singles “In the Ashes” and “Antidentity,” which we definitely recommend if you like what you’re hearing. Pre-order the album from Bandcamp here, out April 5th.
