The first time I saw Axes was in London 2014 at one of the most stacked math rock shows I’ve ever been to, and they were the only band I had never heard of before. Needless to say, I became a lifelong fan then and there – the energy and exhilaration they transmit on stage with their playful tunes and antics is something to behold. They left a much longer lasting impression than any other band that night, and I was determined to see them as much as I could.
Fast forward past 4 years of gigs, me fanboying uncontrollably and eventually getting to know how awesome Paul, Stacey, Al and Jeion are in person, they hit me up with two new tunes and we are here today with the honour of presenting them to you!
The first track, ‘Pack Your Bags, Grab Your Balls and Get Ready for the Hurricane’, was recently featured on the compilation The Bees Knees, which raised money for Dan from Cleft’s cancer treatment. “The track was named after a poster advertising for a new bassist, which a band had put up in our old rehearsal room,” the band recounts, “The song title was the headline, followed by “So if you think you’ve got what it takes…” We couldn’t resist the pomposity of it!“. The second track, ‘Christmas Number One’ is a brand spanking new track that has yet to see the light of day.
Both tracks were recorded in 2015 with Tristan Ivemy at Hermitage Works Studios in London and will be available for digital download shortly on Bandcamp.
Not only do we have new tracks for you to feast on; we are happy to announce the band’s first string of live dates since their European Tour with Alpha Male Tea Party and Cleft in October 2015. The band will embark on a week of shows across the United Kingdom during mid-June. Details are as follows…
