Tuesday music dump

THE TUESDAY MUSIC DUMP // FIGHT IMPENDING MADNESS WITH NEW RELEASES FROM YVETTE YOUNG, ANDO SAN, PARACHUTE DAY, AND MORE

From where we’re sitting, today feels like the most important Tuesday Music Dump we’ve ever put out. We know it’s not – they’re all pretty great, but recently we’ve had a few reminders as to how big our little global community really is.

The best part of these dumps is checking out music from all over the world, and math rock is just a small chunk – these would be twice as big if we included neighbor genres like prog and mathcore. We already kind of do we just don’t actively go searching through those tags for dumps.

Regardless, from Italy to Buenos Aires, from Portland to Tampa, today we’ve got a lot to throw down so we’re also going to challenge yourselves a bit on this one and do our best to say less. That being said, we’ve got new music from Yvette Young, Ando San, Kjjjjjjjjj, and a hell of a lot more, so take care of yourselves and let’s get dumpin’.

LeitaAlle Porte Del Regno Animale

This Italian Stallion of a math rock album mixes unique electronic influences with an already exciting blend of post-rock, math, and emo.

Fragile FiguresSee The Charcoal Rats

A strangely cinematic experience that sounds like a post-punk score for one an incomprehensible horror film.

Hurry Up, SnuffkinWhy Is A Raven LIke A Hydrogen Bomb?

To be honest, we can’t answer that question, but we can tell you unequivocally that if it makes you write music like this, keep asking – somewhere between chip-tune, emo and math rock, this is a winning combo.

Foot Footstill waters, empty house

An unexpectedly delightful throwback to the nightmares of early 2000’s post-hardcore greatness a la Fear Before the March of Flames and Cats and Cats and Cats.

Insect Hotel ParkWanted to Write a Haiku About This Pigeon, But Haikus Are Hard

While it’s also a pretty hilarious setup between the clever EP title and the tracks, there’s also a lot of really stellar prog and math rock under the hood to enjoy.

PaperdiskMaterial and Chemical

Easily the most beautiful thing we’ve heard in weeks, this “math folk situation” is exceptionally transportive, bringing to mind Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, and the solo work of Nay Mapalo from Hikes and Adobo.

OATSGeneration Loss

Post-punk and math rock from some absolute madmen from Amsterdam, and we couldn’t recommend it enough as it barrels through headphones like a beast made from parts of McLusky and Exotic Animal Petting Zoo.

Ando SanOH KAY

Every time Ando San puts something new out, fans know to expect a level-up moment – but OH KAY has enough attitude, substance, and staying power to change the game completely, easily making for one of his best EP’s to date.

Disfavor – Demo

Discovering this Brazilian post-hardcore demo on Bandcamp felt like a warm, fuzzy connection to another world where acoustic guitars, heavy metal guitars, and shoegaze vocals collide.

終末回路 – 終端から引き剥がす

We might not know how to read it or pronounce it, and we can barely comprehend it, but we do know that we love this absolute shred fest out of Japan that lands between Nuito, Paranoid Void, and Marmalade Butcher.

tonguecutterMinnow

Get in on this nasty backwoods punk and hardcore fest from Muskegon before it’s too late – we have a feeling tonguecutter is going to blow up as soon as soon as hungry fans of Callous Daoboys, Scowl and Gel get wind of it.

SISYPHEremonte-pente-dans-le-tartare

If you ever find yourself missing T.R.A.M., this one is sure to soothe what ales you with it’s smooth jazz overtures and occasionally chugg-y shred, but know this – SISYPHE just might have put out something even better with remonte-pente-dans-le-tartare.

DewlapWere They Who They Said They Were

This Kansas trio fuzzes their way to our hearts with an EP that reminds us of Hyper Olympic but with a little Lightning Bolt threw in as well.

Parachute DayParachute Day

This insanely fun and fresh prog safari checks all the boxes for fans of things like Plini and Sithu Aye but also kind of a little bit Snooze too with their unique handle on vaguely djent-y math rock.

IdiogramReunion of Broken Parts

Some people get downright weird when they heard tags like post-math or post-prog, but UK’s Ideogram makes a strong case for both with a vaguely cybernetic but entirely charismatic glow. It’s like Three Trapped Tigers, but also, not.

.repetendPermutations

No joke, one time in Missoula we walked into the wrong house after going back to the van for a smoke and ended up in a room with strangers passing us a massive water pipe – Permutations sounds like it was made by those guys: visibly shook, but friendly enough to get you hooked.

Apeiron NecrosiSogni Bagnati

More absolute heat from Italy, this one goes crazy for fans of melodic prog like Protest the Hero but also heavy rock hits like Mastodon and Kvelertak.

i’m Being goodShapeshitter

Somewhere between Nick Cave, Tool, and Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum, you will find this perfectly depressing and unique experience.

rheumatoid trapezoidmercy your rancid soul

Honestly, they had us at the title of the EP – but there’s some supreme gnarliness on display here for fans of Lightning Bolt, Layers in Lairs, and You Slut!.

kikoyou(im)maturity

Man, we can not get enough of this recent phenomenon of hard hitting emo projects with extracurricular instruments like bassoons and saxophones, and Kikoyu also shows us you don’t need ten minute songs to show them off – hell, they don’t even need a one minute song!

DiazepamFacets

Jazzy, club friendly math rock isn’t something we could have predicted, but if you’re into bands like TANG and Loam, this smooth cut from New York is guaranteed to scratch the itch.

Wygant SkidmoreThe Hairs on Your Head (The Teeth Try to Chew Fluid Cures)

Listen, go to the Bandcamp page for Wygant Skidmore and tell us that’s not one of the cutest dogs on Earth. Also, the brooding and often otherworldly tunes are worth checking out as well.

Mah BukeeLaurels

This one is practically inscrutable, but that’s why we kind of love it – it’s like if Bon Iver left the cabin and walked into the woods, only to become one with them and then write sort of a… psychedelic tree-man ambient project.

KjjjjjjjjjjjBi Won

When these Buenos Aires baddies dropped Centro de Dispersíon in 2020, we were absolutely blown away. This time we are still blown away as the band continues to explore dark yet accessible veins of math rock and prog, all while sounding like they own the place too.

MOLD! – “Elevator”

Florida’s MOLD! is teasing the release of III, their third LP, and “Elevator” gives us a lot to grow on with it’s constant see-saw between blasting beats and fuzzy, psychedelic freak outs.

Josie on GodRUMINATIONS

This bizarre scramz-meets-math from the future is lo-fi, hazy, and ultimately extremely hard to place, but if you’re an open minded cyberpunk, you’ll find a lot to love in the chaos and rubble.

Head Wound x Soft Exit – SPLIT

Much like Bang Ladeafy, Head Wound and Soft Exit take electro-hardcore and whip it up with the exotic flavors of bands you’d see at ArcTanGent, making this split seem almost like a festival in itself.

Yvette Young – magic hour (emo/ambient bedtime sound bath for Hatch)

_

Closing things out and to settle things considerably, don’t sleep on this absolutely beautiful bed of sounds from Yvette Young. The music and sounds were composed for Hatch, an organization dedicated to helping people get sleep… so wait… maybe you actually are supposed to sleep on this. However conscious you are, it’s a great way to close out a tough day and start dreaming about a better tomorrow.
