NEW MUSIC // SEIMS ACTIVATE LASER FOCUS WITH NEW SINGLE “FLOWING UPSTREAM”

Even though it’s been a solid four years since IV, it doesn’t feel like an exaggeration to say Sydney’s SEIMS are still considered one of Australian prog’s most consistent and interesting acts.

Whether it’s their 2012 debut’s feverish post-rock, the Mogwai-meets-Town Portal-and-Adebisi Shank-arc of the 3‘s, or IV‘s strange orchestral majesty, there’s always been more than enough to keep listeners coming back for years at a time. And now, you’ve guessed it – it’s that time again.

“Flowing Upstream” is the first single from SEIMS’ upcoming new album V, and it’s got extra-strength doses of all of the elements we mentioned above, not to mention a couple of surprises – check it out below:

The video looks and sounds great, with our favorite moment being about halfway through when things shuffle beneath a singular wall of fuzz guitar. The whole thing was actually directed and edited by the band’s own Simeon Bartholomew, also featuring a stirring dance performance from Olivia Hadley that lets the people know yes, you can dance to math rock in a respectable way. You just need to be good at dancing.

We understand that for many that’s potentially a huge ask, but we say go for it… just warm up first, you know? Luckily the only thing you have to be good at to appreciate the new SEIMS is listening. Even if you don’t find yourself dancing the night away, you’ll find bob your head and tap your feet like nobody’s business. Don’t forget to pore=order it here.
