It’s been a couple years since we played it, but Both Houses (featuring former members of CLOA) seem to be pretty into a game that needs no introduction. Okay, it needs a little introduction, but just a brief one… like, a very brief one. Okay… *drumroll* … Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Like most things Star Wars, that’s about all the intro it needs, as when it dropped in 2017, it made quite the impact. What’s funny is Both Houses and their new single “Battlefront 2,” much like Battlefront 2, keeps things fresh by bouncing listeners around to different perspectives, flying from math rock in one moment to post-hardcore, prog, and noise rock the next.

The black and white video is definitely interesting in that creepy, muted, quasi-Lynchian way, reminding us of the early days of Save Us From the Archon and their surreal aesthetic. And while musically Both Houses is on a wavelength more aligned with Tera Melos or Nuito, it’s definitely worth checking out if you like to get weird.
After the band serves math rock and post-prog in the front, it descends into a nearly dungeon-synth outro, which is a bold segue for a band we technically know little about, and that’s a great sign. We’re not sure which house, or where, but Both Houses have us on the lookout for whatever’s next for sure. They also recently announced that they’re in partnership with STT / Set The Tone Records, a label that’s quickly collecting some of the region’s most interesting tracks, so when we know, you’ll know.
