NEW MUSIC // CHALLENGER DEEP SHINE A LIGHT ON MAN’S BEST FRIEND WITH NEW VIDEO FOR “SHIMMER”

Challenger Deep have been gearing up for their new album Point of No Return for some time now, due for official release just over a month from now on August 1st.

At the risk of sounding greedy, we’re always stoked when a band announces their upcoming work is going to be a full-length. It’s a ‘more for us’ kind of thing, even if at this point it is relatively old-school. But the singles so far have teased what seems to be a diverse and satisfying LP full of riffs and surprising moments for the Atlanta quartet.

Whether it’s the heaviness of “The Cruelty of Fangs” or the lo-fi and string flourishes of “Scavenger,” the band’s got the goods, and “Shimmer,” the newest of the batch, is a treat all it’s own – check out the music video below:

Honestly, this is probably the cutest music video we’ve ever seen, and believe it or not, some of these dogs are actively ready to be adopted from Rescue Me GA, which you can see for yourself at their website here.

You already know they have impeccable taste in instrumental music, go on, do it!

Anyway, the song itself is also great. Out of the three so far, it’s the most emotionally exposed, taking some what you’d hear in the post-hardcore power ballads of Fall of Troy and Coheed and Cambria while also making sure it’s still very much the instrumental goodness expected from Challenger Deep. Corey Bautista and Kris Crummet also kill it again with the mix and master for the song, so we’re firmly looking forward to the overall sonic cohesion of the record as well when it’s finally here.

You can check the other singles on Bandcamp here, but don’t forget to pre-order the record on their website here. Equally as importantly, if you’re even remotely in the ATL area, go adopt one of those dogs! Not only are they cute as hell, they’re math rock royalty now. Adopting / rescuing a dog is literally a top five lifetime decision on the level of having kids, getting married, or starting a band. When you adopt a dog, there are parallels to all three of these, just five times the smells. But it’s worth it. Not unlike an LP.
