You know, it’s been a while since we looked at a track listing and thought to ourselves, “Jesus Christ, what is this?” But today the Denver by Dallas duo Biscuit Head have gone and done it. Thankfully, the songs behind the titles had us giving a similarly stunned reaction.
For math rockers, the band’s EP is a real gem. While the record’s title, Chunky Moisture, takes the cake in unlistenable album titles thus far released in 2025, the record splits the difference between psychedelic tongue-in-cheek of early Giraffes? Giraffes! and Tera Melos with the modern instrumental whimsy of bands like Hyper Olympic, Daydream Plus, and gods.
Embrace the chunk below:
We were tempted to say this was their debut, but it’s actually not – we heard from them all the way back in 2015. You can definitely tell it’s the same guys, and by the same guys we mean Chelby Hanks and Wes Silverton of bands like Le Grand, Halfsleep, Gini, and more. But you can also tell they’ve come a long way instrumentally on tracks like “Who is U?” and “Tongue flavored Butthole, Butthole flavored Tongue.” Yes, that’s what it’s called. Don’t ask us.
It’s heavier in general too, both in sense of production and the tracks themselves, with “It’s Just Smells” taking on some serious post-hardcore strut and closer “Gullible’s Travels” reminding us of And So I Watch You From Afar‘s Gangs era with crunchy chords atop unwavering melodic sections. But maybe chunkier or moister are better descriptors. Regardless, if you’re looking for a chunk time, Biscuit Head is reliable to say the least – let’s hope we don’t have to wait ten years before the next one!
