If you’ve been eyeing / earring extreme music of late, you’ve no doubt started to notice Fuck Money! popping up from time to time, but thankfully it’s not just due to the catchy name. The high-octane punk collective bring an eclectic but intrinsically cathartic mix to the table. There’s also lots of layers, from the lyrics to the production – the more you listen, the more you’ll hear.
There’s vibes post-punk, chaotic, 80’s hardcore sizzle, angular math rock guitars… to say the least, Fuck Money! doesn’t just run the gamut, they maraud the place.
Without further ado, here’s the premier of “Strain,” the latest single teasing their self-titled full length via Three One G August 29th. It’s chock full of the good stuff – check it out below:
Truly, this one checks a lot of boxes for us. Fuck Money! has this distinctly disparate aesthetic all their own, but detectable building blocks of things like The Armed and MSPAINT in the way they just seem to radiate creative energy.
Also, we’re excited to help spread the word on these guys not just through our words, but their own as well – check out this QnA with drummer Alton Jenkins, where we cover the band’s style, influences, and their natural, if chaotic, evolution.
FB: Songs like “Strain” and “Dead Man” almost sounds like two songs exploding at once – can you tell us about the evolution of the song and how the album version differs from its earliest forms / demos?
Fuck Money: Our writing process is an act of capturing energy & our chaotic musical impulses and then forming those moments into succinct songs which end up sounding like something completely strange and new to us. That energy is steeped in our existential & socio political realities, however, we’re never committed to one style or approach. Dead Man went through the same process as our other songs. The album version sounds almost exactly like the live performance version.
FB: How would you say the album differs from the EP in general?
Fuck Money: The album differs from the EP mainly because the album mixed and recorded at higher fidelity. We mixed this album to show a bit more clarity in the musical performance. Also, by the time we wrote this album, we were already starting to get a grasp of what type of energy we wanted to put into our songs. So we feel like this album is a good representation of our creative impulses. The next album will be even better.

FB: Were there any different influences on the writing process this time around?
Fuck Money: Our influences haven’t really fluctuated much. We’re just doing our best to continue writing music that compels us and challenges us.
FB: From what we’ve heard of it so far, there are still a ton of gnarly effects pedal moments on the record – is it difficult to replicate live or do you use the same / a similar rig?
Fuck Money: Our live sound is pretty close to what the album sounds like minus a couple of trivial special effects. We used pretty much the same rig for live performances and studio recordings.

FB: Is there a track you’re most excited for people to hear? Is there a track you’re most excited to play live?
Fuck Money: We’re excited to hear which songs people gravitate towards. We’re not really sure which songs on the album are singles or which songs people will like more than others. It’s still a mystery to us, so that will be fun to discover. We won’t be performing any of these songs live. We start playing shows again this coming Fall, in which we will be performing entirely new material, an entirely new album.
FB: We loved catching up on some of your other interviews and how you mention the focus and goals of the band – have you seen fans “focus on the bigass eye at the top of the pyramid” yet?
Fuck Money: Thanks for helping spread the word. I think our fans are definitely interested in seeing things through a fuck money lens.
