EXCLUSIVE // DEAF CLUB AND INDECLINE COMMEMORATE THE EVENTS OF 9/11 WITH INCENDIARY VIDEO FOR “PAIN IN THE ASSERY”

You know, 9/11 was 24 years ago, and it was quite a time to be alive or even in fourth grade, as we were. Seeing people jumping from the buildings and looped footage of explosions and airplanes disintegrate didn’t feel great as a kid, but in retrospect, that is when we really started to get a grasp on what a pain in the ass the world can be.

Genuinely, we still remember waking up to confusing reports on a clock radio in the other room – normally it wasn’t so loud it would wake us up, but it was a constant presence those mornings as we ate breakfast and got ready for school. We remember trying to lean in and understand – at that moment they were announcing the alleged attack on the Pentagon. But our mom nudged in, whisking papers we’d printed in our face: “the people that did this, they’re just like this.”

Strangely, but perhaps tellingly, she was pointing at soldiers we’d printed out from Half Life the previous evening – you know, the Special Forces sent by the US government to eliminate their own citizens in hopes the truth of the fictitious video game would never reach the public. Not ironic in any way.

When we finally got to school, everything had changed. Our childhood friend from Iran was instantly scrutinized and unfairly chastised at every turn, and before that, he was one of the school’s most popular kids. So what we really learned about that day were things like nationalism, imperialism, racism, and the Skull and Bones club. One could argue that on that day, many skeptics were created, but we’re not here to discuss the chemical properties of jet fuel and its effects on steel beams. Much has changed, yet much has stayed the same.

Today we’re here with an almost too perfectly timed ripper from Deaf Club and a video they made in collaboration with INDECLINE for “Pain in the Assery,” and in times like these, it’s an honor to help get the word out:

For maximum impact, here are some words from Justin Pearson as well:

“I’m fully aware of the complexity of what 9/11 was and still is. I see how it resonated in different directions, starting with a low IQ political puppet on an aircraft carrier fumbling through a poorly written speech in front of an arrogant banner reading “Mission Accomplished”. The dollar store PR stunt which only gradually got into focus for various people at some point showcased the ongoing business of global terror perpetrated by the U.S. Government. We can easily look back and see a linear trajectory predating the G.W. Bush Administration heading backwards to the Clinton administration when the government continued the war in Afghanistan which was started by the previous Bush, and before all that, with the Reagan administration bombing parts of the Middle East while fucking around with the Iran Contra scandal. You’d think we could see it now with clear focus in relation to the U.S. Government’s support for genocide in Palestine, and today in DC, with the infant stages of a visible police state. Yeah, we can pick a side in a two party system who are just inbred cousins of a bigger system that always points towards war, the business of war, and the lack of humanity, as well as the lack of intellect to negotiate peace. So you can “never forget” 9/11, and you can also just forget, because the politics of war are not concerned with anyone’s wellbeing.”

Deaf Club are one of the few bands that can make actual good on the premise of trying times creating better music, and it’s no surprise that today’s incendiary presentation continues the legacy. It takes a bold approach to cut through the noise, and their new album, We Demand A Perfect State of Happiness, does just that. It’s out on the 19th, but trust us – it might not be permanent, but it is roughly thirty minutes of cathartic bliss. Pre-order it here via Three One G.
