In a bid to break down the barriers between audience and performers, Brighton’s Small Pond Recordings are rolling out their monthly master classes: intimate workshops designed to give listeners and musicians a chance to interact with and learn from prominent musicians in the math, post and prog community.

Last month we had Adam Betts in and it was a huge success,” says Small Pond kingpin Vlad Matveikov, “we had people drive down from London and Manchester and the session was so interesting and informative.” On top of their daily awesomeness of managing rehearsal studios and releasing quality albums from the likes of Alarmist and Town Portal, the Small Pond team will be running one master class each month through to the end of the year. October will feature US guitar wizard Yvette Young, followed by Adam Hutchinson of the The Physics House Band in November, and finally Blake Mostyn of Delta Sleep will finish off the year.

Master class guests will speak on various topics, from tour life to technique, with the overall goal of creating a positive and constructive environment where aspiring musicians and non-musicians alike can garner wisdom from prominent figures in the scene. “I think these types of events are great and help even further break up the separation between artist/audience and amateurs/professionals“, says Vlad. And more power to them, we say.

Small Pond’s master classes will be hosted at their Brighton studio. To sign up for a master class, you can use the Facebook events below.

If you live in Asuncion and can’t afford the flight over to Brighton, have no fear: the Small Pond team will be recording each session and making them available for public viewing on Vimeo (more details to follow). However, we strongly suggest making some time and space for this one, not only to rub necks with some of the best in the business, but also to support the scene that gives you love in irregular timing.
