The story of Colin Phils is one that crosses the prime meridian: the trio formed in South Korea whilst the members were teaching English, moved to China and collaborated with Hong Kong label Sweaty and Cramped to release e, r, som, sa, and have since relocated back to their hometown of Richmond VA, to steadily become a pillar in the scene.

Jump to 2017 and the band are currently knee-deep in a fundraising campaign to help them record a split with equally laudable Richmonians Houdan The Mystic, and produced by Mitch Clem of Fight Cloud. And today, we are premiering a fresh cut off the album, complete with forest views and colourful seating.

‘Chappie’ is the first single of the split, and finds the band saying goodbye to Summer with feelgood guitar melodies and vocal harmonies. The new single is a more-than-successful exercise in joyful, upbeat math rock; and Colin Phils is a band ready to walk in the shoes of bands like Enemies and Six Gallery, fusing the off-meter quirks of math with the cohesive and melodic hooks of pop and indie.

SMEISColin Phils’ new split will be released officially on December 9th. Keep up to date with their progress (and their exciting end of year China tour) via the band’s Facebook page. And don’t mix them up with Phil Collins.
