Codices have got a lot going on. Drawing from a myriad of musical influences, the young London quartet are bringing together all types of motif to their sound: dark, light, discordant, technical, minimalist. The diversity, the craft, the precision: Codices are clearly committed to the writing of their sound, perhaps what their ‘codex’ band name alludes to.

The release of the band’s debut Illuminations is imminent, and we are proud to end the week with an exclusive stream ahead of time. The four track EP, mastered by Tom Peters of Alpha Male Tea Party fame, borrows from post rock, math rock and post metal to synthesize a well-balanced soundscape.

Guitarist Sam Festenstein has this to say about Illuminations: “These songs reflect the process that we have gone through in getting to know each other as musicians and how to communicate. Working with Sam [Jones] allowed us to fully realise our vision for the songs which we’ve been working towards for more than a year. They hint at a diverse set of influences but we are very conscious of trying to create something that sounds fresh and interesting“. This is definitely a band to keep an ear on…

bathing‘Illuminations EP’ will be released on the 19th May. You can keep up to date with the band via their Facebook page. Have a nice slice of weekend ye all…
