When Osnabrueck musician Benjamin Gunther aka Lilly Legit got in touch with us last year with his prime cut of piano-based jazzy math rock, we were pretty stoked to say the least. Coming off the back of our premiere of Lilly Legit's debut album last year there was talk, likes, upvotes, you know, lots of social media validation.
So the whole world is starting to contemplate WWIII, the least we can do is bring you some exclusive math rock. Y'know, help start your week off with a bit o' chirp. And we're super excited about this one.
For as long as I have been aware of triumphant Leeds math rock trio, Tall Talker, I have been totally enamoured with them; their ability to create complex, “mathematical” music which remains tasteful and solidly abundant in groove has them ranked pretty highly in my books.
It has always fascinated me whether it is more hipster to like 'Amy Winehouse' or 'Grindhouse'. With the former, you can pass off your listening to mainstream pop music as ironic. With the latter, you can dismiss the titillation and moral depravity pertinent to most grindhouse cinema and endorse it for the 'retro' and 'cult' facets.
