In their 14 years of existence LITE have always been good at doing something new on each release; using different instruments, adding a sprinkle of other genres one wouldn’t normally associate with them and generally keeping things fresh. Yet they always seems to maintain a mix of clean guitar twiddle and filthy funk rhythms that is theirs alone.
Masterminded by the combined forces of northern promoters MADE: PRESENTS and the infamous John Niblock of Black Sheep, the latest addition to the scene is the incredibly exciting Reckoner Festival, a Sheffield all-dayer in October, boasting a seriously, seriously immense lineup.
The name ‘GriffO’, which the band has said was taken from the word 'griffonage' or messy doctor-style scrawl, reflects their situations of creating music at first when they established, but also very fascinating with the meaning of unknown. They think their music still has possibilities to change with more features, and they need to be more mature,and will definitely come out in their future compositions.
The word “kai” has many meanings in many different languages, but perhaps the rough translation, “oar”, can be applied to Tokyo 4-piece te’ ‘s new album,『櫂』(kai), considering one may need some oars to traverse the unpredictable rhythms and immense waves of sound delivered in each densely packed track of this release.
